Southeast is a thinly populated neighborhood in the southeast corner of Manchester. It is bordered by Holt Avenue to the north, Lake Massabesic and the Auburn town line to the east and Interstate 93 to the south and west.
The Lake Massabesic Watershed is situated here and considered one of the most beautiful areas in southern New Hampshire. The lake provides drinking water for more than 150,000 people in the regional Manchester area and is a home to deer, hawks, fox, loons, and other wildlife species. The name “Massabesic” is derived from the Native Americans who inhabited this area, meaning “the place of much water.” The lake has a gross storage capacity of almost 15 billion gallons and it has a surface area of 2,500 acres. Together with two large adjoining ponds, Lake Massabesic has 28 miles of shoreline.
