Somerville is a mid-density neighborhood located to the southeast of Downtown Manchester. The Somerville neighborhood is bordered by Hayward Street to the north, Mammoth Road to the east, Cilley Road to the south, and Maple Street to the west.
This neighborhood is also home to the Somerville Fire Station which opened in 1906. One of ten first stations in the City, Engine 7 was the last horse-pulled engine in Manchester. Because of the station's steep neighborhood history and strong community ties, the city chose to keep the original structure and integrate it into a new and expanded facility. As such, the renovated facility has been recognized with a Preservation Award by the Manchester Historic Association and is still in use today.
