The Bakersville Neighborhood is south of Manchester’s Downtown Neighborhood on the east side of the city. Bakersville is bordered by Hayward Street to the north, Willow Street to the east, Mitchell Street to the south, and the Merrimack River to the west.
Bakersville was named after the late Joseph Baker, who built a farm on land purchased from the Amoskeag Company. Bakersville has seen redevelopment in recent years, especially along the banks of the Merrimack River, including Elliot Urgent Care at River’s Edge. In 1957, Swiss engineer George de Mestral opened his company, Velcro USA, in this neighborhood where it remains today.
